This brief is one in a series, in which we revisit each of the design principles to ensure continued relevance to quality educator preparation and provide additional information on each based on the literature. In this brief we highlight the design principle titled: Practice-Based Approach, as defined by BranchED. We believe quality educator preparation purposefully engages candidates in direct experience of teaching (practice) and focused, critical reflection, in order to increase knowledge, develop skills, clarify values, and develop the capacity to contribute to diverse communities.
